Author's Faire

We are amazing authors! All children did a wonderful job researching and creating a brochure about an animal from the Amazon Rainforest! They learned so much!

To help make sure all people at the Author's Faire could see our book, we made a quick video.  It's not perfect, but I still think it's pretty special!

We wrote a book, The ABCs of Lanai, that inspired the song Mr. Matt Glickstein wrote for our school!  Click on the picture below to see our video!

Here are some pictures of our Rainforest Unit:

Economics

Quarter 4 brings the start of our economics unit in social studies!  We kicked it off today by learning the difference between natural, human, and capital resources.  We wrote about them in our journals and then found examples of them in magazines.  The kids are great at distinguishing between them!

Digging through the magazines.

Finding the perfect photographs.

Deciding if its natural or capital.

Example of a journal.

Table 3 is all on task!

Table 4 is hard at work.

Table 5 is finding some great examples!

Table 1 is working together!

Definitions
Natural Resource: materials that are found in nature and that can be used by people in many ways. Fresh water, soil, coal, and forests are all examples of natural resources.

Capital Resourcegoods produced and used to make other goods and services. Basic categories of capital resources include tools, equipment, buildings, and machinery.

Human Resource: the people who work for a business.

Leprechauns!

Our class had a fun visitor today - Silly McGilly!  He is a leprechaun and he played some tricks on us!

Here is the toy, sitting in the window to tell the real leprechaun to come visit us!

He turned our poster upside down!

Can you find what he did to our calendar?

We then made our own leprechauns.

The kids all had great ideas for why they are lucky!

Fun St. Patrick's Day books!

Happy Spring!
